He graduated from Kimball High School in 1944.
Roger was a veteran of World War II, the U.S. Army Reserve and the Korean War. He proudly served his country from 1944-1951.
He graduated from Kearney State College with a bachelor of science degree in education and later obtained his master of science degree in education.
He owned and operated Pete's 66 Service Station in Kearney, then taught school at the Boys Training School and then at Upland. He then taught shop and computer science at Horizon Middle School until he retired in 1989.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council and the counting board, and was active at Martin & Katie's Book Store.
He was a member of Kearney Elks Lodge 984, Kearney American Legion Post 52 and VFW Post 759.
